The sites are in Husnes, Norway; Rackwitz, Germany; Deeside, UK; Lucé, France; Azuqueca, Spain; and Henderson, Kentucky, and Commerce, Texas, in the U.S.
The sites were certified according to the ASI Performance standard earlier this year, a recognition of Hydro’s sustainability efforts. With the ASI Chain of Custody certificate also in place, we can provide our customers with verification that the products are sourced and produced responsibly from our bauxite mine to the metal leaving our gates.
The Primary Metal Umbrella Certificate already certifies Sunndal, Årdal, Høyanger, and Karmøy aluminium plants in Norway and Clervaux in Luxembourg to the ASI Performance Standard and ASI Chain of Custody Standard.
In total, several dozen Hydro sites – from our bauxite mine and alumina refinery in Brazil to aluminium extrusion and rolled products plants in many countries – are ASI-certified, and more site processes are ongoing.
The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) is a global, multi-stakeholder, non-profit standards setting and certification organization. It works toward responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium following an entire value chain approach. ASI’s Standards apply throughout the supply chain, from mining through downstream sectors that use aluminium in their products. ASI launched its Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Standard in December 2017.
