Hydro is thoroughly committed to helping create a viable society.
Beyond our own internal actions, one of the most important means of achieving this goal is linking with external groups who share our objectives. Together, through direct involvement with international organizations and in projects, we can accomplish a great deal.
Achieving mutual objectives
We participate in partnerships of many types, including industry associations, international organizations and projects focused on specific goals. Each of these types of partnerships plays a different role in contributing to these goals.
While we compete with other aluminium companies in the business arena, we share many common interests in our responsibilities as an industry. In particular, Hydro is a member of the European Aluminium Association (EEA) and the International Aluminium Institute (IAI). Through these organizations we are able to cooperate in finding ways to improve society, for instance by generating support for aluminium recycling programs.
Social development, ethics and integrity
Beyond our industry, we participate in many international forums focused on social development, ethics and integrity. These include the UN Global Compact and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.
Our most important trade organizations are:
European Aluminium International Aluminium Institute (IAI) International Council on Mining & Metals (ICMM)
We also believe that rankings on indexes measuring responsible business practices help us all push ourselves that much further. Hydro has been listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices each year since the index series started in 1999. We are also listed on the FTSE4Good global index, and in September 2013 we were selected for inclusion on the new UN Global Compact 100 stock index.
