Disclosure of mining concessions and exploration permits

Hydro has reported voluntarily according to Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) since 2005. From 2017, our EITI reporting has been included in Hydro’s country by country reporting to comply with Norwegian legislative requirements. As an ICMM member, starting from 2022 we are also committed to disclose related contracts with authorities for operations owned more than 50 percent.

Hydro has only one mining operation, Mineração Paragominas SA, a bauxite mine in the state of Pará in Northern Brazil.

The National Mining Agency (ANM) manages the Brazilian mining rights. The titles are classified into exploration permits, which allow geological exploration, and mining concessions, which enable ore mining.

Hydro holds mining rights in Brazil in both categories and processes in the transitional phases, moving from the exploration permit to mining concessions. For the maintenance of these titles, Hydro complies with the legal requirements and conditions linked to mining rights, as well as best practices of the mining industry.

More information related to mining rights can be consulted on the ANM website: https://www.gov.br/anm/pt-br.

Information about Hydro’s conformance with the Global Industry Standard of Tailings Management (GISTM) can be found here.

Below we present our mining concessions and exploration permits. All mining rights in Brazil are issued through processes. The processes are limited by area. In the legal Amazon, this limit is 10 thousand hectares. Thus, the Paragominas mine has more than one process covering its entire mining area.
