In a time where millions across the world are facing hardship, Hydro will contribute NOK 500,000 to support UNICEF’s efforts to save children’s lives and defend their rights. This year’s holiday contribution will support UNICEF’s work where it is most needed and to help children in need in countries like Sudan, Palestine, and Ukraine.
Millions of children are living in difficult conditions, in crises and with insecurity. This year has been marked by war, disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and political instability and it is the most vulnerable who pay the highest price.
“Societies with hope and opportunity begin with children who feel safe. Unfortunately, more and more children are growing up surrounded by war and conflict. UNICEF’s efforts are crucial to ensure these children’s safety and building a foundation for a better future, for them as well as for society as a whole,” says Eivind Kallevik, President and CEO of Hydro.
UNICEF estimates that more than 57.5 million children were born into countries affected by conflict or humanitarian crises in 2024. This figure is expected to rise by at least 400,000 in 2025. There are 213 million children in 146 countries and territories who will need humanitarian assistance during 2025, and UNICEF’s Humanitarian Action for Children plans to reach millions of children with support in the coming year.
“In an unstable world with more children in need than ever before and increasingly scarce resources, it is essential that UNICEF and partners receive the support needed to reach every child with life-saving assistance and protection,” says UNICEF Norway Secretary General, Maria Greenberg Bergheim.
UNICEF, the United Nations agency for children, works to protect the rights of every child, especially the most disadvantaged and those hardest to reach. Across more than 190 countries and territories, UNICEF works to help children survive, thrive and fulfil their potential.
