Magnor plant is first extruder in Norway to achieve ASI certification

Hydro’s aluminium extrusion plant in Magnor is now certified according to the ASI Performance Standard. ASI aims to see sustainability and human rights principles increasingly embedded in supply chains.

The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative’s (ASI) Performance Standard recognizes the responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium. The certification of the Magnor plant covers the site’s production of aluminium solutions, including extrusion and fabrication activities, and surface treatment.

“It is nice to be rewarded for the hard work our team has done and achieve this goal. ASI Certification is important to our sustainability agenda, and it supports our customer demands for aluminium products that are sourced and produced responsibly,” says Morten Bråten, who manages the plant.

Hydro Extrusion Norway develops and produces around 7,500 tonnes of aluminium profiles annually, serving customers in the building, electronics, general engineering, and transport markets.

Last year, the company added Hydro CIRCAL and Hydro REDUXA to its customer offering. These low-carbon aluminium products help enable customers to reach their sustainability goals and meet the demands of climate-conscious consumers.

Hydro employs about 100 people at the Magnor plant, which began operations in 1971. It is the first aluminium extruder in Norway to achieve ASI certification.

      Strong support for customers

“I’d like to congratulate the Magnor team for this achievement. Hydro is all about doing business the right way,” says executive vice president Erik Fossum, who leads Hydro’s Extrusions business area.

Hydro Extrusions is the largest business area in Hydro with 22,000 employees in 40 countries. It delivers tailored aluminium components and solutions to all industries, from automotive and mass transportation to building and construction, electronics, offshore and maritime. The business area serves more than 30,000 customers across the world.

      About ASI

The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) is a global, multi-stakeholder, non-profit standards setting and certification organization. It works toward responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium following an entire value chain approach. To this end, ASI launched its Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Standard in December 2017, and after a three year revision process, published new versions of the Standards in May 2022.
