Fatality of a security guard at Hydro’s joint-venture partner Qatalum

A security guard contracted by Qatalum died in an accident caused by a heavy storm that hit Hydro’s joint-venture partner Qatalum’s aluminium plant in Qatar early on December 10.

The security guard was on duty at Qatalum’s port facility when the storm occurred and died when his cabin was blown to the sea due to strong winds.

Qatalum, which is jointly owned by Hydro and Qatar Aluminum Manufacturing Company Q.P.S.C. (QAMCO), has a nameplate capacity of primary aluminium of 636,000 metric tonnes and casthouse capacity of 664,000 metric tonnes. Qatalum is fully integrated with a smelter, casthouse, carbon plant and a dedicated gas-fired power plant.
