Norsk Hydro: Hydro signs new long-term power contract for Norwegian aluminium portfolio

Norwegian aluminium company Norsk Hydro ASA’s fully owned subsidiary Hydro Energi AS has signed a long-term power contract with Norwegian renewable energy producer BKK Produksjon AS, for annual supply of 0.5 terawatt hours (TWh) over 10 years from 2021 to 2030, resulting in a total of 5 TWh over the 10-year period.

In 2014 and 2015 Hydro has, including the above-mentioned contract, signed contracts for 3.75 TWh per year in the period 2021 to 2030, and 0.33 TWh per year in the period 2031 to 2040. The contracts have been signed with Norwegian utilities Lyse, Eidsiva, Agder Energi and BKK, and with Swiss-based Axpo.

The contracts will contribute to supplying power to Hydro’s aluminium plants in Norway in the years after 2020, when the existing long-term power contract with Norwegian state utility Statkraft expires.
