Hydro was one of the first companies in Pará to establish a partnership for the benefit of local development, supported by an Intentions Protocol with the state, through its Secretariat of Industry, Commerce and Mining (SEICOM). The agreement will enable a development of a State Plan of New Business.

According to Andreia Reis, head of Business Relationship & Development in Hydro's Bauxite & Alumina business area, the agreement "reinforces Hydro's commitment with growth of Pará and shows the importance of putting the public and private experiences together in order to organize actions which will contribute to the economic development of the region."

Reis signed the protocol on behalf of Hydro in a ceremony at Casa da Mineração (Mining House) in Belém, capital of Pará state, on May 10. "Our goal is to support new actions focused on regional development in order to increase economic growth as well as social and environmental development," she said.

David Leal, secretary of SEICOM, said the expectation, from the moment that the plan is established, is to bring more suppliers to the region, enabling new business and development in Pará.

"Hydro is a well-structured company and has the correct profile in social responsibility. With this agreement, we will work together with the company to bring strategic suppliers, add value, create employment and income for Pará and also to reduce Hydro costs," he said.
