The accident occurred at around 10.00 local time, when the contractor and three other colleagues from a local company that specializes in industrial equipment handling, were working to remove the heavy punch press machinery. The cause of the accident is not known. Punch presses are used to cut holes in material, such as aluminium.

All relevant authorities have been informed of the accident, and police and medical services are on site. Hydro has also established an internal investigation, in cooperation with the local company.

Hydro has an aluminium extrusion plant in Lucé with two presses and surface treatment capabilities, and also operates an aluminium remelter in the French city located about 90 kilometers southwest of Paris.
