The accident occurred as the 35-year-old contractor, together with two co-workers, was about to clean the facade on a building being erected on the site for the new Automotive Structures plant. The plant is being built adjacent to the existing Precision Tubing plant in Suzhou.
When moving a skylift (movable platform), the skylift tilted and fell over the 35-year-old worker. He sustained serious head injuries.
The accident happened just before 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 19. The worker was rushed to hospital by ambulance, where he died at 5 p.m. the same day.
The worker origins from the Sichuan Province, and his employer has arranged for his family to come to Suzhou.
Chinese safety authorities have already started their investigations. A corporate investigation team from Hydro is preparing its departure to China.
